Gateway to Wake Forest program launches

The University has launched the North Carolina Gateway to Wake Forest program, where undergraduates from North Carolina with annual family incomes less than $200,000 per year will attend tuition-free, beginning for students admitted for the 2026 fall semester. The initiative aims to create more opportunities for talented, high-achieving North Carolina students to attend Wake Forest regardless of family income.

Securing the future of AI

A National Science Foundation CAREER grant will allow Sarra Alqahtani, associate professor of computer science, to create the first safety and security standards for collaborative, real-world AI systems. Over the next five years, she will work to develop algorithms and benchmarks to better ensure that AI systems will continue to work properly, even if compromised in a deliberate attack.

How can mathematics make AI more sustainable?

Chris Cha (’27) is working with faculty mentor Dr. John A. Gemmer of the Department of Mathematics to model server strategies for generative AI and cloud computing. Their research project uses math to find solutions that cut costs and reduce environmental impact.

Through the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URECA) Center, our students gain hands-on experience, build confidence in research, and tackle big questions with real-world impact.
