French chemist Louis Pasteur is famous mostly for his various vaccine discoveries and research on bacteria. When we "pasteurize" milk, we are using Pasteur's discoveries about bacteria to make milk healthier. A 19th century national hero, Pasteur dedicated much of his work to the scientific progress of his country.
