The North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards require that teachers know the content they are teaching and follow the curriculum that the North Carolina Standard Course of Study generates. While the NCSCS outlines a general curriculum, teachers need to go beyond the basics to ensure that the content is relatable and relevant to students' lives. I believe it is important to know the content beyond what I am teaching to the students. It would reflect poorly on me if their thirst for knowledge took them above where I was capable of teaching. I believe that integrating the various subjects together will help the students understand that the skills are interdependent and are relatable to the real world.
