Pedagogy

"Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one." -Malcom Forbes

Pedagogy is a word often used to describe the art of being a teacher and the strategies a teacher uses to teach students. To me, pedgagogy is not only the way in which I teach, but also my knowledge of how learning takes place. As a part of great teaching I will plan lessons and activities that are appropriate for my student's needs and design instruction that is multi-level in nature. This means that I will strive to plan using strategies and activities that reach out the varying ability levels of my students. I believe that varying the types of activities and the way subjects are taught is extremely important in an elementary classroom setting, and keeping things varied is an important goal for my teaching. I will help students be able to work in teams well and develop important critical thinking and problem solving skills. I will do my best to communicate effectively with my students, their parents, and the school administration and use fair and creative ways to assess the learning that is taking place in my classroom.

A structured web activity guides students to specific sites on the web to help them research and learn more about a certain topic. Click here to view my structured web activity created for second graders to learn more about voting and the American electoral process.

Here is an example of a science lesson plan about the life cycle of the frog. It was created by myself and Miss Mary Glenn Crumpler for 2nd graders.
