Exhibition on Burgundian Romanesque Art

The exhibition, Auxerre et les premices de l'art roman, was conceived by the Centre d'etudes medievales in Auxerre, under the direction of Christian Sapin, to accompany the reinstallation and presentation of the eastern crypt and new, western archaeological crypt at the abbey of Saint-Germain in Auxerre.  A book was published in connection with the exhibition, as seen below.  You can order a copy from the CEM, whose address is on their page at this site.

The exhibition will travel to other Burgundian venues through 2002.  After closing at Auxerre at the end of the summer, it will be at Dijon, Tournus, Autun, La Charite-sur-Loire and Cluny.  Below is an installation view of the exhibition in the former abbey cellars at Saint-Germain.

Shown below is Christian Sapin, whose vision has led his team to complete successfully the long-term study at Saint-Germain, speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the new crypt arrangements and the opening of the exhibition, June 18, 1999.

Bravo, Christian!  Et merci.
