Teachers serve as leaders not only in the classroom, but also within their schools, community, and the teaching profession. Leading teachers take responsibility for student learning by creating a safe and empowering classroom environment, making adjustments to the teaching and learning process to accomodate for all learning needs, and use a variety of assessment and data to evaluate student progress. They work with teachers and school staff and encourage professional development to help move schools to higher levels of effectiveness and achievement. It is also important for teachers to actively seek positive change in education and model qualities of ethical citizenship.
I plan to be a leader in my classroom and school by investing in teaching and planning teams, working closely with parents and parent organizations, and developing cooperative and valuable relationships with the principal, teachers, and other school staff.
Making connections between school and home is an important part of student learning. Click HERE to see my example of a parent newsletter.
