Diversity

Teachers celebrate diversity in the classroom as a powerful instructional and community-building tool. Teachers demonstrate knowledge and importance of diverse communities and cultures and actively look for materials to represent and embrace minority voices. High expectations are set for every student and are supported with thoughtful consideration of individual background, culture, and point of view. Teachers work collaboratively with students' families and other influential individuals in students' lives to increase out-of-school involvement in their education.

I plan to build community and model respect for others as a teacher so that my classroom will be a place where all students feel accepted and proud of the things that make them an individual. I will encourage students to share about their own culture and find value in the differences in others.
