Like any sport, disc golf has its share of jargon. DG shares some basic terms with stickball golf: tee, stroke, par, birdie, bogey, etc. However, it also uses less-commonly known terms from disc sports: hyzer, turnover, etc. Here's a short list of terms used to describe golf disc flight. These definitions assume a backhand throw; flight path in relation to the throwing arm is reversed for forehand throws.

• Anhyzer: a release angle in which the outer edge of the disc is higher than the edge closest to the throwing arm.
• Hyzer: a release angle in which the outer edge of the disc is lower than the edge closest to the throwing arm.

• Overstable: a flight in which the disc tends to move in the direction opposite the throwing arm.
• Stable: a flight in which the disc moves generally straight ahead of the thrower.
• Understable:a flight in which the disc tends to move in the direction of the throwing arm.

• Fade: the tendency of a disc to move in the direction opposite the throwing arm as its forward speed decreases.
• Turnover: the tendency of a disc to move in the direction of the throwing arm at a high forward speed.
