Diversity

“We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams.”

- Jimmy Carter

Many view the United States as an advocate of unity and acceptance of other nationalities and ethnicities. This openness to new cultures and races has given the United States a “salad-like” entity, where thousands of different people unite, yet still maintain their own individual identity. By incorporating this metaphor to reality, one can agree that although the American culture is prevalent in the U.S., the United States is not homogenate.  Different ethnicities represent a large portion of America’s population and are important factors to the overall growth of the nation.

Having lived in Mexico, France and the United States has given me the opportunity to integrate into three completely different customs and has opened my eyes to the beauty of the different cultures found in the world. I will strive to pass the knowledge of this beauty on to my students and will establish a community in my classroom where everyone’s highest potential is expected and where they feel secure and accepted.
I recognize that all of my students are different and by working with every individual, I will meet any special needs they might require. By building positive relationships between every individual in the classroom, the students will learn to respect differences and counteract stereotypes.
