Here are the assignments for week 2 (Mar 21, 23). To
complete your answer you'll want to read Chapter
2 (Risk and Return) on the course website.
Monday, Mar 21 (due Sunday, 6:00 pm)
Please prepare a 3-4 page memo on the question whether
the jury in the Chevrolet Malibu case properly considered
the "value of life" evidence. The case is
described in a Stanford Law Review article and a couple
New York Times articles, both linked in the "value
of life" section. Consider how you, as a lawyer
for GM, might have explained the engineering studies
at issue in the case. (Remember please include both
a textual and a spreadsheet answer to these questions).
You can find the case in 2.1.5
(Value of Life) Email your memo to me as an attachment
(preferably Word, with any spreadsheet imbedded in
Word).
Wednesday, Mar 23 (due Tuesday, 6:00 pm)
Please prepare a 3-4 page memo on the question whether
the court in Tad's Enyterprises correctly decided
the relevant returns and discount rates for Cell Tech.
Consider the questions at the end of the case overview
and discuss how you might have decided the case differently,
if at all. Justify what you consider to be the correct
results and discuss how well you thought the "legal
system" handled the issue. (Remember please include
both a textual and a spreadsheet answer to these questions).
You can find the case in 2.5.1
(CAPM Basics)
As always, I invite your proofreading and "click"
reading suggestions.
