Project for Undergraduate or MS Student Project for Undergraduate or MS Student

Visualization of atomic motions and of electron density in molecules and solids.

Idea: Using computer programs that we have developed over the past several years, we are able to calculate how atoms move near their equilibrium positions in molecules and solids. Graphic visualization of these results will make important contributions to our qualitative and quantitative understanding of these results. In the past we have used IBM's Data Explorer software to make still photos. A sequence of images can be used to make movies of the atomic motions.

Prerequisites: No specific training is necessary, but some experience with computer software would be helpful.

Dates: The starting date is flexible. Summer of 2001 would be ideal.
