Accessing the Reynolds Candidates Calendar

We have set up shared Netscape Calendar for scheduling our visits with the Reynolds candidates. Everyone in Computer Science and Physics should have full privileges to edit the calendar. I will be adding the Reynolds Committee as soon as I get a list.

Given the number of us that need to meet and the limited number of slots, we will need to meet with the candidate in groups of two to four. We will put several slots in Calloway and several in Olin. This may result in a natural grouping of faculty from the departments, but you are welcome to pick any slot you like.

Here is the procedure:

To open Netscape Calendar, first launch Netscape from Windows, and then select Communicator > Calendar.

This will bring up a login window. The login ID is not your usual university ID. It is your first and last name. Your password is your usual Windows and AC login. If you have trouble logging in, you can "find yourself" by clicking on the magnifying glass and doing a search on your last name:

After a successful login, you will see one or both of the following windows:

Select "File > Open Agenda > An Agenda as Designate" as shown above. (CTRL-D will also do it.) The following window will pop up:

Be sure the button at 1 is selected, and then click OK. (If you are a designate on additional calendars in the white box, be sure to first select "Reynolds Candidate".)

A new agenda (calendar) should be opened with a window title "Reynolds Candidate (designate)". (If the above name does not work, click the magnifying glass, click the "Resource" tab, and search for "Reynolds".)

The calendar will initially open with today's date, but you can click the forward and back buttons to go to the interview dates with the time slots for the Reynolds candidate interviews.

Navigate until you find the days of the visit, double click on a "Slot for general faculty interviews" and then add your name to the appointment. If there are already several people scheduled, try to find another time. To add your name:

  1. Enter your name in the "Name:" slot.
  2. Click "Add".
  3. Click "Update".

That's it!

Take care not to edit the titles or times of the slots.

Want to experiment? Play to your heart's content with March 11, 2002. No candidates are scheduled during spring break.
