ASSIGNMENT #2 - DEBATE CRITIQUE
ADVOCACY AND DEBATE - COMM 102

1.   Complete a one page analysis of an academic debate.

2.   The analysis may focus on:

a.   Tracing the evolution of an argument line through the debate

b.   The way in which the format or procedure influence the nature of argument

c.   Rationale why one team or Lincoln-Douglas speaker position(s) prevail

d.   Analysis is a flexible term - any approach you can defend as a legitimate posture for critique or analysis (insight) is acceptable

3.   Avoid focusing on the stylistic, delivery personnel, or the personal in the debate.  Remember this is to be an analysis of the argument(s).

  1. Attend a debates at the WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY NATIONAL EARLYBIRD FORENSICS TOURNAMENT-September 14-16th, yes, this weekend

5.   Postings for JV debate will be available in Carswell Hall (Annenberg Auditorium) or (Varsity) Library Lobby at Mt. Tabor HS (Polo, across Reynolda, proceed until first light, turn right, follow signs) at or around the scheduled time for the round.  Lincoln-Douglas (Single person debate) will be held at North Forsyth H.S. (Left on Shattalon Dr. off of Univ. toward US 52).  Posting available inside entrance.

6.   Please introduce yourself the the judge and they will most likely be willing to visit with you about the round (or to a judge recommended by the front table You will more than likely benefit from their insight, during or after the round.
