According to the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards, teachers are expected to base all instructional content on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Beyond that, they must actually know the material they are teaching and be able to see how it relates to other subjects and disciplines while making it relevant to the lives of students. I will design my instruction from the expectations and objectives outlined in the Standard Course of Study while making sure that the material we are learning is integrated across all subject areas. I will also incorporate 21st century skills (leadership, ethics, accountability, adaptability, personal productivity, personal responsibility, people skills, self-direction, and social responsibility) into my classroom activities and lessons while reinforcing the value of content and life skills knowledge.
