The first of the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards is leadership. Teachers are expected to demonstrate leadership in their classroom, school, and teaching profession as well as advocate for the school and students and demonstrate high ethical standards. My goal is to take responsibility for my students' learning and classroom by setting high expectations for student success. Part of being the best educator I can moves beyond the classroom and into the school and teaching community itself. Working with the administration, collaborating with my colleagues, and advocating for the teaching profession and school are all important elements of leadership within the profession. I fully expect myself to abide by the NCPTS of demonstrating ethical standards for I believe teaching goes hand in hand with professionalism, honesty, fairness, equality, and respect for others.
Another important part of leadership in the classroom is the school-home connection. Click here for a sample newsletter I created for parents to read at the beginning of the school year.
