Texts

Translation of Mark

A Working Translation of the Gospel According to Mark by Fred L. Horton

A Note About Fonts: If you find that the Greek text does not display properly and you wish to display that text, the most economical solution would be to download the shareware SGreek.ttf from Silver Mountain Software. The Hebrew text, on the other hand, is from the normal Windows Hebrew Keyboard. In Windows XP go to Start->Control Panel->Regional and Language Options->Languages->Details->Add. Then select Hebrew from the pull-down menu.

A Basic Vocabulary of Biblical Studies For Beginning Students by Fred L. Horton, Kenneth G. Hoglund, and Mary F. Foskett will provide you with specialized terminology you will find useful in this course.

Online Help

You are welcome to enroll in the online version of my Religion 327 course. All I need from you is an e-mail requesting enrollment. You will be enrolled with a username that corresponds to the letters and figures before the @ in your e-mail address. So if your e-mail address is janedoe@umailem.org, your username will be "janedoe." If your e-mail address is 56tr4@umailem.org, your username will be "56tr4." I will send you a password by e-mail.

To get into the course direct your browser to blackboard.wfu.edu, enter your username and password, and you'll be in business.

If you just need an online answer to a question about the Gospel of Mark, you may ask the Graduate Student On Call even if you are not enrolled in the online course. This student will try to get you a timely answer. To access this help just send your question to me, and I'll pass it on to the graduate student assigned. That student's answer will come back to me for a little QC, and then I'll pass it right back to you. Contact me by e-mail if possible or by telephone.

Special Topics

There are several PowerPoint presentations I use to teach special topics. I will be glad for you to have them for your use. Because these files are so large, however, I don't have room for them on my server allocation. There are two ways to get them:

  • The easiest is to enroll as an online student in Religion 327. The university uses Blackboard software. Enrolling makes all of the helps available to my students available to you including the online quizzes and all of the special documents, including PowerPoint presentations I make available to my students on that system. If you want to enroll, just follow the directions in Online Help above.
  • The other way is to let me know what file you would find useful, and I'll be glad to send you a CD with your requested presentations.
