A child needs to be engaged in what he or she is learning for them to really grasp and fully comprehend the concepts. For example, through technology, personal experiences and having the students act out concepts, I am determined to get my students active, interested, and actually part of the lessons. I will constantly be assessing my students' performance and achievement throughout the school year (not necessarily by tests or quizzes), and will be more than willing to modify my plans if I see that changes could possibly enhance student learning. After getting to know my students individually and their specific learning styles, it is important that I respond to the learning needs of each of them and accomodate these styles in my lesson plans. If every student is to be valued and the achievement gap is to be narrowed, this flexible approach is necessary.
