Funds for Faculty Development
Limited funding is awarded for faculty development seminars each summer through CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange). This funding covers all seminar fees with the faculty member responsible for transportation costs (e.g., airfare). Seminars are offered around the world and focus on a cross-section of topics and disciplines.
Faculty Stipends for International Course
Stipends of up to $3,000 are awarded for the summer to selected faculty members who wish to develop a new undergraduate course with an international focus.
Funds for an International Conference
Limited funding is awarded for the fall, spring or summer to support an international conference or colloquium. The event should focus on global issues, bringing together scholars with an interdisciplinary and international perspective. The funds are intended to defray administrative and logistical costs associated with hosting the event, exclusive of accommodations and transportation for participants.
Funds for International Scholars
Limited funding is awarded for the fall and spring semesters to support linkages between Wake Forest University and International Scholars. These linkages may include invitations to international scholars for presentations, lectures, short research projects, or other types of collaboration.
Undergraduate Student Stipends for Participation in International Conferences/Activities
Undergraduate students are encouraged to apply for funds to participate in a variety of international activities during the fall, spring or summer. These activities may include a presentation or attendance at: an international conference; a domestic conference with an international focus; or a workshop or other activity with an international focus.

The Associate Provost for International Affairs and the Center for International Studies invite the submission of proposals for participation in one of the CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars for summer 2010. Seminars typically run for 1-2 weeks. Proposals will be evaluated and 2-3 faculty members will be chosen to participate. Seminar fee includes all lectures, site visits, study tours and seminar materials. It covers accommodations and two meals daily; transportation to included activities as well as entrance fees for included excursions. Faculty Stipends for International Course Development for Summer 2010
Call for Applications: January 11, 2010
Deadline: March 19, 2010
Through the QEP, stipends of up to $3,000 will be awarded for Summer 2010 to selected faculty members who wish to develop a new undergraduate course with an international focus. Interested faculty members should submit:
- A brief description of the course with particular emphasis on its international focus.
- An explanation of how the proposed course fits into their teaching/research interests and into the department’s course offerings.
- A preliminary syllabus including the semester that the course will be taught.
- An abbreviated CV
Also, please note that a final syllabus and course evaluation will be due after the course is taught.
The stipend award is based on the understanding that selected faculty members will teach no more than one summer session in order to have the time to develop the course. Faculty members who have not received international course development funds in the past will be given priority but all are encouraged to apply.

Funds for an International Conference in Spring/Summer/Fall 2010

Through the QEP, limited funding will be awarded for the Spring, Summer, or Fall of 2010 to support an international conference or colloquium. The event should focus on global issues, bringing together scholars with an interdisciplinary and international perspective. The funds are intended to defray administrative and logistical costs associated with hosting the event, exclusive of accommodations and transportation for participants.
Interested faculty members should submit:
- An overview of the conference including its theme and goals.
- An explanation of how it will be both interdisciplinary and international in focus.
- Examples of scholars who might/will be participating.
- A detailed budget of the cost of the event.
Please note that a brief report will be due one month after the event describing the goals, participants, and outcomes.

Funds for International Scholars in Spring 2010

Through the QEP, limited funding will be awarded for the Spring 2010 semester to support linkages between Wake Forest University and International Scholars. These linkages may include invitations to international scholars for presentations, lectures, short research projects, or other types of collaboration. Available funds are not adequate, however, to support/hire semester or year-long visiting faculty.
Interested faculty members should submit:
- A statement outlining the linkage/type of collaboration between the international scholar(s) and Wake Forest University.
- The CV of the international scholar.
- A detailed budget of the cost of the collaboration.
Please note that a brief evaluation/results report will be due one month after the collaboration ends. Also note that these funds are not designed to cover any costs of the collaboration incurred by WFU faculty members.

Undergraduate Student Stipends for Participation in International Conferences/Activities

Undergraduate students are encouraged to apply for funds to participate in a variety of international activities during the Spring or Summer of 2010. (Note: An additional call for applications will be made in the spring for summer or fall 2010.) These activities may include: participation in (i.e., presenting a paper or attending the event): an international conference; a domestic conference with an international focus; or a workshop or other activity with an international focus.
Students should submit:
- A statement of interest explaining how the conference/workshop/activity will enhance their educational experience and international understanding.
- A detailed description and dates of the conference/workshop/activity.
- A recent transcript.
- One letter of recommendation from a WFU faculty/staff member.
- A detailed budget request for the conference/workshop/activity.
Please note that these funds are not designed to support internships or study abroad programs. Also, note that an evaluation/results report is due one month after the conference/workshop/activity ends.
