to Carolina Skeptics

Carolina Skeptics is an organization devoted to the critical investigation of paranormal or extraordinary claims. Paranormal claims are those that contradict science as we currently understand it, such as precognition (telling the future), miracles, astrology, and levitation. Extraordinary claims include psychic powers, UFO's, and fringe medicine. We do not investigate claims that cannot be objectively studied.
We conduct our own investigations of these claims, follow the activities of other skeptics groups, monitor press coverage, and sponsor speakers for the public on matters of interest to skeptics. We are available to the local media for commentary, in an attempt to inject a cautionary note in a forum all too ready to accept extraordinary claims without adequate evidence.
Carolina Skeptics does not reject claims of the paranormal without evidence, but it is our belief that the burden of proof lies with those making such claims. We are willing to investigate any and all claims, but there must be very solid evidence before paranormal claims will be accepted.
