General Information about Carolina Skeptics Carolina Skeptics is an education-oriented non-profit organization (currently applying for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status). It was originally founded as the Triad Area Skeptics Club in the fall of 1998 in Winston-Salem North Carolina, but has grown to include members throughout North and South Carolina. Among our activities, we sponsor talks and other activities, publish a quarterly newsletter, investigate paranormal claims, and provide opportunities for our skeptics to interact both socially and via the internet. All activities strive to be consistent with our Statement of Purpose. Members of TASC receive our newsletter, as well as receiving discounts from Prometheus Books. So why not become a member today, or at least be added to our mailing list? Most of our activities are still here in the Triad (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point), though we also have regular events in the Triangle as well. We are currently trying to get regularly scheduled activities in Charlotte, Boone, and Asheville areas. We are also exploring the possibility of hosting events in South Carolina, probably in Charleston and/or Greenville. TASC has received considerable media coverage, including a cover article in Triad Style. Our Friday the 13th events attract media coverage as well.
Carolina Skeptics is affiliated with the Committee for the Scientific
Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP),
and also acts as a host for Massimo Pigliucci's online magazine, Rationally
Speaking. It also performs tests of paranormal claims on behalf
of the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF). send
