Crystal King: Reverence With Clay

Crystal King, of Seagrove, North Carolina, is a third-generation folk artist who grew up working in the pottery tradition of the region. A young woman who was recognized in her early teens by collectors, she is best known for her sculptural pieces of Biblical scenes, such as Adam and Eve at the apple tree, Jonah and the big fish, and Moses and the burning bush; perhaps most famous are her versions of Noah and the ark. This film captures the essence of her work process, her interaction with people who collect her work, and her thoughts about the Seagrove tradition, which she believes is being lost despite the influx of potters in the past fifteen years and the opening of their many new potteries.
