The courtship of the polka-dot wasp moth Syntomeida
epilais takes place in the wee hours of the morning in south Florida.
The female starts the process by releasing a female sex attractant. The
male responds with a staccato of ultrasonic clicks (32kHz). The female
answers the male’s call with clicks that are distinctive in both their
rhythm and duration. The male continues to click and homes in on acoustic
replies of the female (Sanderford and Conner 1990, 1995).
