Pedagogy

In the North Carolina Teacher Standards it explains that teachers know the ways in which leanring takes place, and they know the appropriate levels of intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of their students, plan instruction appropriate for their students, use a variety of instructional methods, integrate and utilize technology in their instruction, help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, work in teams and develop leadership qualities, communicate effectively, and use a variety of methods to assess what each student has learned. Every student will be prepared for life after school in the 21st century. Teachers understand how a student thinks and learns. It is my job, as an educator, to learn the different techniques that each individual student learns. I will modify my lesson plans to adapt to different types of students. For example, if I have visual learners I will make my lessons involve visual examples. I am going to discuss my ideas with my peers and colleagues so we can learn from each other to make the learning atmosphere the best. Having students succeed in my classroom is one of the greatest things I could ask for. I want them to develop critical thinking, where they can ask questions to think creatively. I also plan on using a variety of methods to assess my students, so I understand that they are learning what I am trying to get across.

In my spring semester of my junior year, we had the opportunity to teach lessons to students in their classrooms. I enjoyed it very much and loved the experience.
