Encouraged the copying and distribution of the brochure Careers for Women in Mathematics. This brochure addresses the question, Is Being a Mathematician Worth the Effort? Sections include a discussion of careers in mathematics, what training is needed, a brief history of women mathematicians, a discussion of discrimination in the workplace and additional resources for those interested in mathematics.


Relevant Printed Resource for Classroom Teachers:

1) For the math and science teachers I supplied a brochure about a resource that is free to teachers in grades five through nine teaching science, math or computers. The Journey Inside: The Computer is a 'Program Where Education and Adventure Meet Head On. . Inside the Computer' available form Intel. This kit includes a 300-page teacher's guide including background information, lesson plans, student materials, overheads and vocabulary for six units which are divided into beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. The units cover the basic operations of computers and microprocessors, digital information, transistors, chip manufacturing and a review of inventions throughout history. 2) I’ve found these two book listed below as the most complete, teacher friendly books to use to encourage, inform and get students excited about Science. Dr. Leah McCoy that helped me with the project and developed the ‘Remarkable Women’ internet research unit based her idea and what Mary Thompson and Rebecca Warren have done in The Scientist Within You books.

The Scientist Within You: Experiments & Biographies of Distinguished Women in Science, Volume 1, Second Edition, revised is for use with students ages 8-13. These lessons are complete and ready to be used in the classroom. ($21.95)

The Scientist Within You: Women Scientist from Seven Continents - Biographies & Activities, Volume 2, is for use with students ages 10-15. This is a global approach with the same design as volume 1. ($24.95)
