How to Authenticate to the Wireless Network with Mac OS X

Requirements

This document presumes you're using Mac OS X.

Introduction

Anyone can connect to WFU's wireless network as a "guest." These guests, however, have little access to campus resources. In particular, they cannot get to Windows shares and may be given slower connections. Alternatively, users can use "802.1x" authentication, with "LEAP," to get a faster connection with more access. Fortunately, Mac OS X has built-in support for 802.1x.

What To Do

  1. Follow the steps in Apple's documents for OS 10.3 or OS 10.4 about "Connecting to a network that requires 802.1X authentication"
  2. Your domain is "DEACNET", your username and password are your email username and password, and your "SSID" depends on what kind of user you are. Please contact the Help Desk, or your IT representative, to obtain your SSID.
