Student Print Collection Catalogue and Essays

Sample Image Since 1990, students in Bernadine Barnes' History of Prints class have written catalogue entries and essays for prints in the Wake Forest Print Collection, which have been published on the internet. The website is an ongoing project meant to give students experience similar to that of museum professionals who deal with original works of art. Students learn to handle the prints, observe style and technique, use print reference materials, and write and edit the catalogue pages.

In 2009 we began to include entries for prints in Wake Forest's Student Union Collection, which is focused on modern and contemporary art. Some students contributed essays on particular printmaking media, such as woodcuts and aquatint, demonstrating how these traditional techniques continue to be used by contemporary artists.
