Pedagogy
No two students alike and no two learning styles are alike.
My teaching methods must be versatile enough to effectively connect with a group of unique individuals and their diverse ways of learning. I must work to accentuate each child's stengths and improve his weaknesses. Once again, tailoring instruction to each child requires that I know my students on a strong individual basis. I will implement a wide range of methods for instruction, emphasizing technology so that students are prepared to live and work in a 21st century society.
Other goals for my students include development of problem-solving and critical thinking skills, decision making, cooperative learning, leadership, and effective communication. All of these skills are essential in order to be successful in the classroom and beyond. I will foster them by consistently utilizing small group interactions and encouraging higher-order thinking in class discussions and independent work.
Here is a lesson plan I constructed for a 3rd grade class on Benjamin Franklin as a model for good citizenship. I also created a structured web activity that could be included with this lesson!
