By knowing the content I must teach, I am able to make learning fun and relevant for students.

Throughout my time in the Education Department, I have dedicated much time to learning the North Carolina Standard Course of Study so that my instruction can be well aligned with it. These standards will shape my instruction so that, by the end of the year, all students are proficient in all subject areas and are well prepared for their next school year.

 

I strongly advocate the integration of subject matter in instruction because it is this inter-disciplinary work that makes learning meaningful and memorable for children. When they can make connections between school instruction and their personal homelives, children deepen their understanding of the material and are able to apply it more readily in authentic situations.
