In order to be a successful teacher, I know that I must be cognizant of the various learning styles and abilities of my students. With such diverse groups of students in today's classrooms, it is important for teachers to use a wide range of teaching strategies and assessment techniques for the purpose of understanding influences on student learning. Students respond differently to certain forms of content delivery, and that is why I will vary my instructional techniques to meet the needs of all students, whether they are at/above/or below grade level, gifted, learning disabled, or have other extenuating circumstances. Universal Design for Learning is an approach to recognizing the diversity of learning, while minimizing barriers that stand in the way of learning, and addressing students' needs from the beginning. It is an approach that is imperative for me to take in my own classroom so that all students will have equal access to content, and be provided the opportunity to meet learning goals.
