As a teacher in the state of Noth Carolina, it is important that I align my instruction with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The Standard Course of Study is part of the Department of Public Education's continual improvement efforts, and it includes the curriculum that should be made available to all students in North Carolina's public schools. With these standards in mind, I will make sure to develop and apply strategies that make the elementary school curriculum rigorous yet relevant for all of my students. In addition, I will not limit myself to mastery of just basic subject matter, but will explore and research subjects beyond what I am required to know for teaching purposes.
Finally, I will do my best to incorporate the 21st Century Life Skills into my teaching. Students in my classroom will be taught core subjects in the context of global themes, and they will work on creative projects and assignments which will help to promote critical thinking, innovation, and problem solving skills.
