Tom was my friend. He spoke at my inaugration as president of Averett University and I served with him as a member of his first Board of Trustees at WFU. I have never met a more honest person. His legacy at WFU will live on,but his presence will be missed. Frank Campbell

My thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Hearn's family and friends during this difficult time. I will always be grateful for the wonderful education that I received at Wake Forest during his presidency.

As a direct result of Dr. Hearn's leadership, I have had the good fortune to have an extremely satisfying professional career at Wake Forest, as well as the opportunity for one of my own children to graduate from the University.

My deepest sympathy is extended to Laura Hearn and the family at this time of bereavement. Be secure in the knowledge that President Hearn was truly a man of diverse talents, "a man for all seasons", one who made a significant difference in the lives of many who had the opportunity to work with, or for, him on the many projects that he initiated both at the University and beyond.

His legacy will be reflected in the annals of Wake Forest history as a time of monumental progress that positioned the institution to move into the 21st Century equipped to grow and change as circumstances dictate.

May he rest in peace.

As a Wake Forest graduate (1953) and a resident of Birmingham, AL, I want to send my condolences to the family of Dr. Thomas Hearn. My grandfather went to Wake Forest in the last century and served Baptist churches in NC. I appreciate all Dr. Hearn did to build on the Baptist traditions of Wake Forest and I pray they will be continued.

On behalf of the Wake Forest College Birthplace Society, we send our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Hearn and the entire Hearn Family. Our mission here in old Wake Forest is to preserve and share the history of Wake Forest. Dr. Hearn was and is a vital part of that history.
