Dear Dr. Beck,
I just read about your retirement in the Wake Forest Magazine. I remember Wake Forest and the wonderful education that I received while pursuing my master's degree in psychology. Understanding motivation and emotion has been crucial in my clinical work.

Dr. Beck: It was with great pleasure that I read your biography in the Wake Forest magazine, and learned of your retirement. I worked in the Biology Department for three years in the early 70s while my husband was in law school and remember you, and the folks in Psychology Department, fondly. Did you have the Galapagos finches during that time? Wake Forest is losing a great asset! Best wishes to you in retirement, Yancey and Osmond Smith

Uncle Bob...
What a great article about you and your career at W-F. As an 11-year-old, I had the proud distinction of being an informal student of yours. I learned alot about self-investigation and evaluation in those days. I also learned many life lessons from you (i.e., the proper handling of LP albums, the proper pronunciation of "Illinois", etc.) Mostly though, I learned about stretching and utilizing my intellectual curiosity from spending time with you and Aunt B during some pretty important years. Enjoy your retirement!

Dr. Beck.............I took three psychology classes from you and I stayed awake most of the time. My best memories of you were of you attending the soccer games I coached at The Summit School on Reynolda Rd. (1985-1988). You were a great supporter of youth soccer in Winston Salem and WFU soccer before it was cool.
Best wishes ....Darden Jenkins ,B.A. Psychology, 1988

Dr. Beck,
Way back in 1962-63, I not only had the privilege of taking classes under you as a psychology major, I also worked for you in your research with the white rats. That year I was also the person that maintained the "animals", giving them water and food pellets and maintaining the different deprivation schedules. Now I read that after 50 years you finally decided to retire. So did I as a clinical social worker after 45 years in human services. I will never forget my experiences working in the lab and have had many humorous "flashbacks" there about working with you. Godspeed to you and your family and enjoy the grandkids just as I am doing now.

Dr. Beck,
I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to be one of your honors students this semester. I will miss you and your yellow raincoat so much! Thank you for everything.

Your seasoned judgment will be missed at the university which loses your 50 years of experience and connection to the WFU's past. Thanks for all you have done in your professional and personal life to make the unversity and community a better place. Enjoy the luxury of writing and playing at leisure. Meyressa
