Faculty and Staff Resources and Services

Wake Forest University is committed to creating and maintaining an environment that attracts and retains world-class faculty and staff. To accomplish this, the University understands the need to offer services, resources and support that range from competitive compensation and benefits to professional and personal development opportunities. As reflected in our recent State of the University address by President Nathan Hatch, the University also seeks to be responsive to the current economic conditions that affect us all.

As a result, the Human Resources Department has partnered with internal and community resources to offer beneficial information and services to faculty and staff. These existing resources, currently in place, are across four distinct areas: Financial Planning Services, Counseling Services, Family Services and Transportation Services. These services are available to aid the WFU community and their family members, promote sustainable practices, and seek creative alternatives to provide support for those in need. More detailed information regarding these initiatives can be found on the Human Resources Website under "What's New in HR: Faculty and Staff Resources and Services."

A brief description of these services includes:

  • Financial Planning Services offers a variety of resources for families that need assistance with budgeting and debt management. WFU's partnership with several local banking institutions enables the University to provide these services free of charge. In addition, financial planning classes and consultation services are offered through the Professional Development Center. The course descriptions and schedules can be found at PDC classes.
  • Counseling Services are available to faculty and staff to address individual and family concerns that may be best met with professional assistance. The Employee Assistance Program and the University Chaplain are both resources available to provide these services confidentially and free of charge, as well as to make referrals to other community resources as needed.
  • Family Services will offer several resources for those experiencing financial or personal crises. These agencies also have volunteer opportunities for those interested in giving back to the community.
  • The Transportation Services initiative will provide information on current services that exist in Winston-Salem and the Triad. There are links to the local transportation agencies such as the Winston-Salem Transit Authority and Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART), which offer many different types of services to meet individual commuting needs, including car and van pooling information.

Please visit the HR website and participate in a voluntary survey regarding commuting habits and whether alternate forms of transportation would be a consideration. This information will help determine transportation interests and needs on campus, as well as their priority and will help us prioritize as we continue to investigate safe and convenient methods to offer these services.

Please visit the HR web page, under "What's New in HR: Faculty and Staff Resources and Services" for more detailed information regarding each of these services. We value your suggestions and feedback and request that you send them to askhr@wfu.edu.
