This encyclopedia was written to try to explain the diversity of feminism and
help define what feminism truly is. It has entries on individuals, organizations,
and classic works considered “feminist.” The entries tend to be very
short and very general so very much just an overview of topics ranging from Joan
of Arc to housework.

This is an encyclopedia that covers ideas about and concerning feminist
theory throughout the multiple waves of feminism as well as biographic
entries about feminist activist and scholars. It includes important
terminology in bold type as well as reference lists for each entry.
Feminist Chronicles, 1953-1993
Ref HQ1420 C33 1993
This book chronicles the women’s movement year by year over the
last four decades by including real documents about the women’s
movements from the largest organizations. In addition to the actual
documents there is also a year by year chart that highlights the critical
people, events and issues of each year.
Glossary of Feminist Theory
Ref HQ1190 A53 1997
This is a glossary of the key terms and people in feminist theory internationally.
Each entry is cross-referenced to other important key words. The entries,
in glossary style, are very brief. Thus this reference would be most
helpful in the brainstorming or very preliminary research stage.
Historical Dictionary of Feminism
Ref HQ1115 B65 1996
This is a dictionary of all the key words and key people involved in
the feminist movement. It also includes a wonderful introduction that
gives the history of feminism as well as time line chronology sections
that overviews the progression of the movement over the years.

Women’s Issues
This database covers women’s issues from 1992 to current with
the option for the article in full text. It covers a variety of disciplines
and pulls from 190 different countries. When you search you can do
a basic keyword or author search but can also search by topic (i.e.
abortion, welfare, etc) or by geographic region (i.e. Afghanistan).
It was really simple to use and offered a proliferation of good articles.
Philosopher’s
Index
This database provides citations for articles from over 270 journals
published in the U.S. and the Western World from 1940 to present.
While its focus is Philosophy it also covers related fields and pulls
up interesting articles about women’s studies—but does
only provide the citation not the full article. The database search
is set up very user-friendly with a basic and advanced search option.
