“Taking Root” tells the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai whose simple act of planting trees in the rural highlands of Kenya grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights, and defend democracy. Directed by Lisa Merton and Alan Dater, 2008. 80 minutes. 2008 Hot Docs Audience Award Winner and 2008 Full Frame Women in Leadership Award. Come early for an information exchange with local merchants, community action groups, and individuals dedicated to sustainable practices. Info exchange begins at 6 pm.
