William C. Warren, a Wake Forest University sophomore, won this year's AAEC/John Locher Award as top college cartoonist, according to an announcement on the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists Web site.

Warren's editorial cartoons appear in Wake Forest's student newspaper, Old Gold & Black. A political science major, Warren will accept his award June 10 during the AAEC convention in Denver.

John Locher is the late son of Dick Locher, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist syndicated by Tribune Media Services.

On March 5, the Old Gold & Black also received recognition at the Associated Collegiate Press' National College Newspaper Convention in Los Angeles. The student newspaper was awarded third place in the ACP's Newspaper of the Year competition for weekly broadsheet papers at four-year colleges.
