Wake Forest University officials are offering assistance to students whose apartments were affected by a Nov. 16 fire that damaged part of a 24-unit apartment building at Crown Oaks Apartments off Silas Creek Parkway.

No one was injured in the fire, which was reported to the Winston-Salem Fire Department shortly after 9:30 p.m. Nov. 16.

By late Nov. 17, university officials had learned two undergraduates and five law students lived in apartments damaged by the fire. Officials were trying to learn whether more students were affected.

A spokesman for the apartment complex said Nov. 17 that she would be providing the university with a complete list of students who lived in the building. The spokesman said she was certain no more than two undergraduates were affected.

Residence Life and Housing officials were attempting to contact the two undergraduates to see if they needed any assistance from the university. A School of Law official said that five law students had contacted the school and were being assisted in various ways.

The Crown Oaks spokesman said that all people displaced by the fire were being offered apartments either there or at other nearby complexes associated with Crown Oaks.

None of the students has requested university housing.
