A rabid fox was found on Faculty Drive July 5, alongside Winston Hall at Wake Forest University, according to University Police.

University Police received several calls from various people around 7 p.m. July 5 who encountered an aggressive fox charging at them as they jogged or walked in the area. The fox exhibited symptoms particular to rabies, including aggressiveness and foaming at the mouth.

A Forsyth County Animal Control officer came to the scene and killed the animal. The Animal Control office reported July 7 that tests confirmed that the fox had rabies.

No one was injured in the incident.

The University Police department asks that they be called immediately if someone encounters an animal on or adjacent to the Reynolda Campus that might be rabid. The number to call is 758-5911. Police officers urge that no one attempt to approach such an animal.

Information about rabies is located on the Forsyth County Web site.
