WFU to participate in worldwide theatrical eventBy Rachel Cook Wake Forest University faculty and students will participate in the first worldwide More than 650 readings of the play will take place March 3 in 38 countries. The Lysistrata Project was initiated by New York actors Kathryn Blume and Sharron Bower in opposition to the potential war on Iraq. The ancient Greek play focuses on a group of women from opposing states who settle their differences and unite to end the Peloponnesian War. Through their efforts, the soldiers agree to lay down their swords and see their way to achieving diplomatic peace. Aristophanes words will be read in countries such as Australia, Cambodia, Estonia, Greece, Serbia and Uruguay; in cities such as London, Berlin, Paris, Beirut and Jerusalem; in all 50 states; and across North Carolinafrom Asheville to Kill Devil Hills. All-star casts, including Mercedes Ruehl, Kyra Sedgwick, Alfre Woodard, Christine Lahti and Ed Begley Jr. will perform Lysistrata in New York and Los Angeles.
