McNally won the John Simmons short fiction award in 2000 and the Nebraska Book Award in 2001 for his collection titled Troublemakers. McNally received his master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Iowas Writers Workshop and has been published in such journals as the North American Review, the Colorado Review and Sun Dog. Hes also edited several anthologies, including Bottom of the Ninth: Great Contemporary Baseball Short Stories, The Student Body: Short Stories about College Students and Professors and High Fidelity: 24 Great Short Stories about Adultery.
