WFU hosts graduate, professional school advice forum

The Black Graduate Students Association of Wake Forest University will host the 4th annual Graduate and Professional School Forum on Nov. 16. Participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the third floor atrium of Greene Hall at Wake Forest.
The public event is open to all those interested in graduate and professional studies. All workshops, a luncheon and other activities are free with pre-registration. To pre-register, call the Wake Forest University Office of Multicultural Affairs at 336-758-5864.
The forums purpose is to provide undergraduate students and others considering graduate school with an opportunity to learn more about the possibilities provided by graduate study, according to BGSA member April Engram.
The theme of this years forum is Transcending the Walls of Limitation.
The forum will be separated into four workshops. Each one will focus on a different aspect of graduate study and school admissions.
The first workshop is titled Question Number 1: How Do I Pass Those Standardized Tests? and is presented by Kaplan Educational Centers. The workshop will provide basic information on entrance exams for graduate and professional schools including the GRE, GMAT, MCAT and LCAT. It will be held in Greene Hall, Room 145.
The second workshop will focus on curriculum vitae and resumes, and what reviewers are looking for in a graduate application. This workshop is titled How do I Make Myself a Marketable Entity? A Dream is Nothing Without a Plan. It will be held in Greene Hall, Room 162.
Lights, Camera, Action: Effective and Impressive Writing and Oratory Skills will focus on rules for professional writing and speaking as well as other tools for effective communication. It will be held in Greene Hall, Room 310.
The final workshop will teach the tools needed to get into graduate or professional school and stay there. The seminar will include the importance of gaining experience as an undergraduate, the application and interview process, how to prepare, and all the things a graduate student should know before entering study. It will be held in Greene Hall, Room 313.
At 11:30 a.m., following the second workshop, a graduate school fair and luncheon will be held in the Magnolia Room of Reynolda Hall, featuring keynote speaker Jennifer Jenkins.
Jenkins is a researcher with Allergan Inc., in Irvine, Calif. Allergan is a technology-driven global healthcare company specializing in eye care and specialty pharmaceutical products worldwide.
