Urban Studies (URB) The interdisciplinary minor in urban studies requires fifteen hours, of which at least nine must be chosen from the following courses. Only one course from the art electives is permitted to count toward the minor. For course descriptions, see the relevant department’s listings.
Courses needed to complete the remaining six hours may be chosen from among the following courses. Additional elective courses may have been approved. The program coordinator maintains a complete list of all approved elective courses. For course descriptions, see the relevant department’s listings.
Students intending to minor in urban studies should consult with the coordinator as early as possible to discuss scheduling of courses not offered annually, careers in urban studies, and other issues. In exceptional cases, the coordinator may approve limited substitutions for the listed courses. Urban studies in an interdisciplinary minor for undergraduates, which can be earned by completing five courses (fifteen hours) from among those listed in the college bulletin. These include courses in art (architecture), urban economics and urban politics, the sociology and history of cities, and urban planning (see college bulletin for descriptions and specific requirements). As the list of courses indicates, the minor emphasizes a broad liberal-arts approach to the urban theme and is not intended to provide a professional credential. |
