Life/Career Planning Groups

(For Fall 2009 group schedule, see below.)

Life/Career Planning Groups are intended for sophomores through seniors who are seeking insight into their choice of academic major or career opportunities upon graduation.  The groups consist of either two fifty minute sessions or one ninety minute session that will guide you through the steps of career exploration. Both formats will focus on the VIPS model for career exploration, which includes:

Values: Your personal values are important to who you are and what activities are important to you.   Guided exercises and discussion will help you explore your values as they pertain to career opportunities.

Interests: Interpretation of the Strong Interest Inventory® will guide discussion of your career interests.

Personality:   Interpretation of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® will help illuminate the role of personality in career satisfaction and success.

Skills:   Interpretation of the Strong Interest Inventory® will guide discussion of your skills as they pertain to career exploration.

Prior to the first group meeting you will take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and the Strong Interest Inventory®. These instruments may be taken in person at the University Counseling Center (UCC) or on-line from any location with access to the Internet. Interpretation of the inventories will be conducted in the group setting.

In order to utilize the on-line assessments, however, you must first register with UCC in person. You will then be provided further instructions on how to proceed.  Please note, while it may be possible to complete the on-line assessments without prior UCC registration, you will not be be able to receive your assessment results without prior registration. Information on registering for on-line assessments and enrolling in a Life/Career Planning Group may be obtained in person at UCC (118 Reynolda Hall) or by calling 758.5273, not by e-mail.
