Corner Works
As part of my internship with the Office of University Art Collections, I was asked to create my own virtual exhibition. My exhibition "Corner Works" is about recognizing the potential of viewing art within an academic environment as a kind of intellectual pursuit. Wake Forest University students, faculty and staff have the unique opportunity to live out their academic lives in close proximity to these great works.
Art is a visual language open to an infinite number of interpretations, is the subject of multiple academic disciplines, is accessible to anyone anywhere and yet is often overlooked. While Wake Forest University celebrates a holistic liberal arts education, art is bypassed in the hallways of campus buildings. These works have been selected based on their locations on campus, oftentimes in low traffic areas hidden around corners or in academically specialized hallways.
Not only does this exhibition bring attention to the fantastic works of art in the Wake Forest University Art Collection but also asks people to realize the importance of art both for the academic community and for the individual art viewer.
