Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1960 to a lawyer and an art historian, Beatriz Milhazes incorporates her native culture in her artwork. The forms and patterns of flowers, folk art, embroidery, and architecture find their way into her ornamental compositions. Her paintings are free and playful yet geometric and organized. Havai (Hawaii) adopts her use of vibrant colors and exuberant shapes, reflecting the art of painting through the eyes of a female artist in Latin America.
