Students with both academic and artistic ability will find a comfortable home at Wake Forest. Our students work closely with a vigorous theatre and dance faculty on a wide variety of projects. They enjoy the benefits of a nationally ranked university with small classes, impressive facilities, and an active theatre and dance program, and they grow as both scholars and artists. College is for learning-through books and lectures, certainly, but also through self-exploration and creative expression. We at Wake Forest believe that excellence in both art and academics is not only possible but desirable.

Presidential Scholarships

The Presidential Scholarship for Distinguished Achievement Twenty renewable scholarships of at least $11,200 each are awarded annually to students admitted to Wake Forest who possess exceptional talents in art, community service, dance, debate, entrepreneurship, leadership, music, theater, and writing.

Though Presidential Scholars need not plan to pursue a major in the area of their talent, they are expected to participate actively in that activity on campus. Interested students must be prepared to present evidence of outstanding talent and are asked by the Presidential Scholarship Committee for documentation of that talent (such as portfolios, debate records, taped performances, published writings, etc.) and recommendations. The program, begun in 1987, further diversifies the interests and abilities of a campus and student body already rich in both.

A separate Presidential Scholarship Application is due by December 1 of the senior year of high school. Regional committees in various areas of the country conduct a portion of the interviews, and finalists are invited for interviews oncampus in March. Winners are notified in late March.
