Parts inventory

  • IBM R40 ThinkPad
  • A/C adapter and power cord
  • Modem cable (6' flat telephone cord)
  • Ethernet cable (10' cable)

Enabling the TouchPad

  • To activate the TouchPad pointing device, go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Mouse Control Panel.
  • Click the UltraNav tab and check Enable TouchPad.
  • Click OK.

Using an External Mouse

The ThinkPad includes an integrated TrackPoint pointing device, which functions as a mouse. If you plan to use an external mouse with the R40 ThinkPad, we encourage the purchase of a mouse that utilizes a USB connection. The R40 ThinkPad does not have a PS/2 port, but with a USB-to-PS/2 adapter, the R40 ThinkPad can also accommodate a traditional PS/2 mouse. Please do not attempt to connect a PS/2 mouse directly to the R40 ThinkPad as damage will result.

Battery Facts

  • The Lithium-ion battery should provide 1 to 3 hours of operation.
  • Batteries are under warranty for 1 year from Wake Forest's date of purchase. If the battery fails after the 1st year, you may purchase a new battery, or use the ThinkPad on A/C power.
  • Batteries are charging whenever the ThinkPad is plugged into A/C power, even if the ThinkPad is not turned on.

Conserving Battery Power

  • Adjust the display brightness control to the lowest comfortable level using the Fn key and the Home and End keys.
  • Remove any CDs or DVDs from the DVD/CD-RW drive when possible.
  • Close any programs you are not using.
