FAQs

The FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) page was developed so that the Multimedia Team can post commonly asked questions and their answers to promote a better understanding of the systems for all users.

Q. How do I turn the projector on?

A. Touch the screen to wake up the control panel, and select the 'Projector' button at the top center of the panel. Then,
select the projector 'on' button; the projector should warm up and power on shortly.

Q. Why won't the projector turn on?

A. If you have turned the projector off within the last minute, the projector may not power on. This is a safety feature built into the projector to protect it and allow it to properly cool down. Wait a minute, and then follow the procedure above. If the projector still will not turn on, there is another issue with the projector, or the bulb has burned out. Call the Help Desk and submit a trouble ticket so that the problem may be properly rectified.

Q. How do I show a VCR tape?

A. After the projector has turned on, select the 'VCR' Button on the control panel. This button is located at the far left side of the panel. Once you have selected the VCR, you will see some control buttons at the bottom of the control panel. Select the play button and begin viewing.

Q. How do I use the Document Camera?

A. After selecting the Document Camera from the control panel you will then need to concentrate on the camera itself. Place an object for viewing in the center of the display tablet and view it on the screen. You may need to turn the camera's lights by selecting the upper or lower light button located on the front of the camera. You may also need to zoom in or out and focus the document or object; both of these controls are also located on the front of the camera.

Q. How do I connect a Thinkpad?

A. This will depend on what type of system is in the classroom. The connection portion is essentially the same for either, so we will begin with that. First, take the VGA connector and connect into the monitor output on the rear panel of the Thinkpad. Next, take the 1/8" audio jack (this looks like a small headphone jack) and connect it to the Thinkpad's sound card (port on side of Thinkpad).

For classrooms with cart systems (large television monitor on top of a wooden case):

Make sure that the control knob on the side of the cart is in the 'P.C.' position and view the monitor. If nothing appears on the display, hold down the blue 'Fn' key on the Thinkpad and press the F7 key. This will allow you to switch into dual mode display. The image should appear on the TV monitor.

For classrooms that have control panels and LCD projectors:

Select the 'Laptop Computer' button on the control panel. This button is located on the left side of the display. The image should appear on the projector screen. If nothing appears, hold down the blue 'Fn' key on the Thinkpad and press the F7 key. The laptop should switch into dual mode display and the image should appear.

Q. How do I adjust the volume?

A. On the touch panel, adjust the volume using the sliding control on the far right side of the display

Q. How do I show a DVD?

A. First, using the control panel select the 'DVD' button from the far left side of the display. Next, select the play button from the bottom center of the control panel to begin viewing the DVD.

Q. How do I connect a device to the AUX Input?

A. Using the output RCA cables from your device, connect the to the corresponding colors on the faceplate. Then select the 'AUX' button from the control panel (or select the 'AUX' position on the control knob for cart systems). You may then control your external device and view the output through the system.

Q. How do I view Cable T.V.?

A. Select the 'VCR' button from the control panel. Next, select the cable channel you would like to view from the numbered keypad located in the center of the control panel and hit the 'enter' key located in the upper right of the control panel. Next, adjust the volume and view the program.

Q. The Control Panel is dark. What do I do?

A. Simply touch the panel and you will wake it up.

Q. How do I get help?

A. There are a few ways to do this. You may refer to this web site for general solutions. If you have a more specific problem, you may wish to call the Help Desk and open a trouble ticket. For help operating the systems, training is offered year-round both in a group and one-on-one environment.
