Wake Forest University’s Secrest Series presented the Luna Negra Dance Theater, with the Turtle Island Quartet and Paquito D’Rivera, at RJ Reynolds High School Magnet for the Performing Arts in Winston-Salem, NC, along with other residency activities, including dance and music workshops; a master class with university dancers; informal discussions with students and members of Hispanic student groups; and classroom visits.

Proclaimed a "knockout" by Sir Simon Rattle, this young, dynamic trio of classically trained string musicians transcends traditional performance genres. In concert, a blue-grass standard like “Orange Blossom Special” may be followed by a gypsy-tinged Csardas. Tf3 is equally comfortable offering their own arrangements of shorter classical works and popular hits, whether Brahms or the Beatles. Graduates of Philadelphia's venerable Curtis Institute of Music, Though still in their late twenties, Tf3 members, have performed with many of the world's preeminent conductors and orchestras. Playing 120 concerts each year, they view their school and community outreach programs as a central part of their mission.

Tthe Paragon Ragtime Orchestra performed Treemonisha, Scott Joplin’s folk opera based on the African-American experience in Wait Chapel. Other activities included two lecture/ demonstrations by Rick Benjamin, the Paragon’s music director, and Richard Heard, WFU voice professor and African-American music specialist; one ragtime workshop for high school students; and one open Treemonisha rehearsal for voice students from WFU, Winston-Salem State University, and North Carolina School of the Arts.
