SPN 389. Internship in Spanish for Business and the Professions.
Course description: (1.5h-3h) Under faculty supervision, a student completes an internship in a bilingual or Spanish-speaking business or professional setting. Does not count toward major or minor. Same as SPA 385. Pass/Fail only. P--SPN 387 or SPA 329.

Requirements for the student:

1. Before the internship:

*Consult with Professor Fulton for approval of the location and the nature of the internship.

*Meet with the sponsoring business/organization to agree to nature of work, number of hours, etc. (See Service Agreement form)

2. During the internship:

*Fulfill the required number of hours (See Service Log):

-17 hours minimum for the 1.5-hour internship

-35 hours minimum for the 3-hour internship

*Meet with the faculty member on a regular basis.

*Keep a journal in Spanish, to turn in at the end of the semester. The journal should contain:

-days/hours worked

-a report on the day’s activities

-a working list of technical vocabulary

3. At the end of the internship:

*Write a report in Spanish:

-1 page minimum for the 1.5-hour internship

-3 page minimum for the 3-hour internship

Requirements for the employer :

-Specify in writing the overall purpose of the internship, clearly stating the different tasks the student will carry out. (See Service Agreement form)

-Agree with the student on the times and hours that s/he will need to work.

-Decide if the student will take the 1.5-hour or 3-hour internship, depending on the number of hours the student's work will require.

-Contact the faculty liaison (Professor Fulton) regarding any question or concern.
